It is not uncommon to find various type of bugs all throughout one’s home. Typically, these bugs need exterminating for they can cause permanent damage and eventually poison ones living space. There are numerous ways to fight off the household bugs, but there seems to be an infinite amount of bugs that can invade a household as well. Silverfish, cockroaches, ants, and flies are the most common types of household bugs that are normally found.
Be it a grey color or silver-blue, silverfish are those tiny tear drop shaped insects that are extremely small (12mm in length) one can find between book pages. Normally found with a few bristles on the rear end that may look like whiskers or antennas. Silverfish tend to grown from larvae to adult without a change in appearance besides the size. They prefer cold, dark places, such as books, kitchens, and bathrooms. For an odd reason they are attracted to garages, paper, and damp clothing because of their need for carbohydrates. They feed of carbohydrates by finding sugar and starches in book glue, silk and other dead food sources.
Flies are associated with numerous diseases, such a salmonella and E. coli. The viruses that cause disease in humans and animals, such as typhoid fever, hepatitis and dysentery are also found within flies. Sanitizing these pests is critical to their control, and accurate ID is essential for keeping a fly problem at bay. Depending on the species, a fly can lives as little as a week to as long as two months. They seem to plague every part of the world except the snow caps, so it’s hard to get a break from these little pests. They have two wings in every species, with about 16,000 different kinds of them in North America alone.
